AcquaSorgente at EGU 2025 in Vienna: Italian Citizen Science on the European Stage

The AcquaSorgente project took part in the European Geosciences Union General Assembly 2025 (EGU25), one of the world’s leading scientific conferences in the fields of Earth, atmospheric, and climate sciences, held in Vienna and online from 27 April to 2 May.

The presentation, delivered on 29 April during the ITS3.2/EOS1.9 session “Citizen science and participatory research: co-design and co-creation with communities”, brought the Italian experience of participatory monitoring of Alpine and Apennine springs into an international context focused on best practices in collaborative research between scientists and citizens.

The talk was part of the oral session, alongside contributions from research institutes and universities from across Europe and beyond. It was an opportunity to share AcquaSorgente’s approach and outcomes, and to engage in dialogue with other citizen science initiatives, including projects dedicated to monitoring air quality, soil health, and urban ecosystems.

Participating in EGU25 was an important recognition of the scientific and social value of the initiative we have built and developed together. The presentation also provided a space for exchange with an international community of researchers, experts, and activists committed to building shared and sustainable knowledge.

Thank you to everyone contributing to the project — collecting data, engaging schools, spreading the word, and helping to give value to this journey! We are all co-authors of this great adventure!
