To measure the flow rate of sources where the bottle is too limited, containers with a larger volume can be used, provided it is known, and with larger openings (e.g. a simple bucket). If the flow is difficult to collect completely, an estimate can be made by collecting the point of greatest flow. For sources where it is impossible to measure the flow rate, it is always possible to acquire information on position, presence or absence of water, photographs, and possibly conductivity and temperature if equipped with a conductivity meter. If a monitoring entry has been uploaded to the database, the phrase “sync id: xxxx” will appear under the uploaded entry in the list of your recordings -> waypoint.

A spring can also be recorded without an internet connection. As long as there is GPS location, the phone will upload the recorded points once it is connected to the internet. If the newly monitored springs do not immediately appear in the list of saved waypoints, they have not been lost; the app just needs to update the list once connected to the internet.

The tool can be requested by all CAI Sections at the following LINK. In order to receive the tool, at least one member must take on the role of project coordinator, managing and using the tool.

Additional information regarding the springs can be noted in the “notes” section of the data entry form. If the spring is labeled as non-potable, it is recommended to use a container for measuring the flow rate that is different from your own water bottle.

All entries are checked and validated by the Working Group. Multiple entries for the same spring, taken over time, will be merged based on geographical location and name, while retaining all the acquired information.

Reporting any problems encountered during monitoring is very useful for improving the project and its tools. You can send any reports to acquasorgente@cai.it. IMPORTANT to keep the Acquasorgente application always updated to avoid any malfunctions resolved in previous versions remaining.

It is advisable to take photos at each monitoring, especially of the spring’s details and the surrounding context, to facilitate the data validation process and provide an idea of the context. The photos are saved in the database, so they can be removed from the phone if you want to save memory space.
