The Acqua Sorgente project by the Italian Alpine Club has been submitted for the European Union Prize for Citizen Science, which celebrates outstanding achievements in advancing knowledge through the active engagement of civil society.

The Prize honors initiatives within the European Research Area that drive change, expand collective knowledge, and introduce innovative Open Science practices that rethink conventional approaches while contributing to social, cultural, environmental, educational, or political progress.

Citizen Science is defined as the general public’s engagement in scientific research activities, where citizens actively contribute with their intellectual effort, local knowledge, tools, or resources (European Commission, 2014). The Prize highlights outstanding examples of collaboration between citizens and scientists, aiming to bridge the gap between science and society.

The submission phase for the 2025 edition is now closed. Winners will be announced in June 2025!
